The perfect pass found their left winger who blasted the ball past a helpless Guo Yong, and into the top corner.

5 minutes later, Las Hearutsusu FC came close to equalizing through a corner kick. Corner Kick Specialist Samuel picked out Sheng Jie well, but his looping header skimmed the top of the bar.

Las Hearutsusu had a couple of half-chances to level things up, but found luck hiding. Valentino’s rasping long shot from the edge of the penalty area caught the Trinity Goalkeeper off-guard as he watched the ball flash past his goal, and wide.

Other than the chance well taken, the Las Hearutsusu defence did well on several occasions in the first, with Kelvin Lin being outstanding for almost the entire match. It was well-timed sliding tackle that crucially prevented the opponent's striker from going one-on-one with Guo Yong after getting past Kelvin Goh. Kelvin Lin further epitomized his solid performance with a great headed clearance from another dangerous Trinity cross. That was probably what John Arne Riise was trying to do last Wednesday!

In the 34th minute, another good chance for LHFC came and gone. A good display of passing football saw Valentino squaring the ball to Samuel, who unselfishly laid the ball back to Joel Lee. Unfortunately Joel was unable to keep the ball down.

2 minutes later, Samuel terrorized the right side once again, but could only muster a low shot wide of the goal.

Las Hearutsusu probably had a fair first half, but were just missing that slice of Lady Luck, or even injured talisman Kenny’s finishing touch. Or so he said.

Half-Time: Las Hearutsusu 0 – 1 Team Trinity

In a bid to shake things up, Jerry, Gavin, Timothy and Nevin started the second half in place of Samuel, Matthew, Yen Sun and Kai Pin.

The introduction of fresh legs ensured LHFC had their fair share of possession, but chances were few and far between in the 2nd half.

On 56 minutes, a mix up in the Trinity penalty area found the loose ball falling to the lively Joel Lee, but he could only fire it wide.

Samuel and Matthew came back on in the 60 minutes to inject some creativity back into the game.

However, the gamble seemed to back-fire when the Trinity attack once again sent a defense-splitting pass to put their striker one-on-one with the Warrior. This time though, Guo Yong spread himself well to block the striker’s shot on goal.

In the 78 minute though, LHFC finally managed to wear down the Trinity defense. Joel’s energetic surge into the 16-yard box caught Trinity on the back foot. The midfielder then found Samuel, who put in a well-weighted cross back into the penalty area. This time though, lady luck smiled on LHFC as the center back was forced into an error, and Sheng Jie struck the loose ball superbly, blasting the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal. It was probably just reward for the team which probably did more than enough to at least secure a draw.

Unfortunately, 12 minutes later, disaster struck. A punt into the LHFC area hit the unlucky Joel Thong’s hand as the referee pointed to the spot. The hand ball just summed up the day for the desperately unlucky Joel who had played solidly for the entire match.

It was a chance for Guo Yong to pull out a most stunning save during his last match for LHFC, but it was not to be as the Trinity striker left Guo Yong no chance with a precise shot that found the bottom corner of the net.

In the end, it was not to be, as the Warrior’s fare-well was spoilt by a penalty that ruined a proud day for the club to big fare-well to a loyal servant.

We can only wish Guo Yong all the best as he makes a dream move to the SAFFC Prime League team.

From Guo Yong

Dear Teammates,

It has been really nice to have been in this team for the past 1 year or so. Though the results weren’t very good in many matches, I can see the team is improving week in week out and I believe very soon, you guys will start winning games more regularly. I’m thankful for being given the chance to keep goal for the team each time I play and it’s been a great experience playing with you guys. It is through playing in this team that I’m able to start again from where I left off many years ago. I’ll look forward to playing for the team as a guest player in future should the chance comes by. Carry on working with Samuel and all the best for the future games!

Guoyong

BRAVE HEARTS DEFEATED YET AGAIN

LHFC 0

MFC 1

Reported By Samuel Chan
shorty_sam28@hotmail.com

The Hearts come into this match determined not to let the goals flow into their net as easily as the previous 3 matches, a combined total of 12 goals in the last 3 matches. The central defence remained, with the return of Kelvin Goh at right back and Galvin, our guest player, at left. The absence of Sheng Jie and Valentino means Raymond, Yen Sun and Samuel marshalled the midfield while Hak Liang, followed by Jack, leading the strike force with Daryl and Kenny in support on the wings.

A very cagey beginning with few chances between both sides, but once the 1st attempt on goal arrived, both teams got into attacking modes. Kenny almost gave the side the lead as his effort from the edge of the box brushed the left hand post while the opponent almost scored on the counter attack on a few occasions. Daryl attempted a left-foot shot, after being put through by Raymond, but his weak shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

Jun Xiang replaced Daryl on the left in the 2nd half, while Jack came in for Hak Liang up front. However, the Hearts were unfortunate to concede an early goal as a scramble in the box resulted in the opponent poking the ball into the net. LHFC fought bravely to make a comeback with attempts from Samuel and Kenny missing the goal by inches each time. Yen Sun had a golden opportunity at goal but he was caught off guard as Raymond and Jack went in for the same ball due to a lack of communication and the opponent regain possession.

MFC almost added a few more but poor finishing by their strikers kept the Hearts in the game. LHFC fail to capitalise on the poor finishing and had to settle for yet another defeat, despite matching the opponent for most of the match. Tough luck Hearts, but the fighting spirit was there once again!

LHFC: Guo Yong, Kelvin G, Ka Shing, Joel T, Galvin [G], Kenny, Raymond, Yen Sun, Samuel (c), Daryl (Jun Xiang 45), Hak Liang (Jack 45)

HEART-EARNED DRAW

LHFC 1

TEAM TCC 1

Reported By Samuel Chan
shorty_sam28@hotmail.com

After last week 8-0 victory over F.C. Dynamo, morale in the Hearts camp is high going into the match against Team TCC. Though the team lost the first encounter 1-8, the guys were definitely going to make amendments and make sure we went home with a decent result. However, the large number of players absent and also last minute withdrawals of key players such as Hak Liang and Guo Yong resulted in the Hearts playing the entire match without any substitutes! The late arrival of players did not help to improve the condition.

Hearts took to the field with only 8 men but 3 TCC players volunteered their services to ensure that the team was on a level playing ground before our own players arrive. The game started off slowly, with Team TCC trying hard to break down the Hearts offside trap. On occasions when they broke through, their strikers either sent their shot wide or was blocked by Ka Shing, our goalkeeper of the day who would become the man of the match at the end! Just as the Hearts were about to re-organise the team, TCC took advantage of a lapse of concentration by LHFC and drew first blood! Hearts pressed on but were unable to find the final touches, with Samuel wasting the numerous corners! And Hearts went into the break 0-1 down!

2nd half resume, with the Hearts more organised this time with some reshuffling during the break. The team in yellow signal their intentions once the whistle was blown with Raymond, Joel, Samuel all sending crosses and long balls into the box for Kenny but nothing materialised! TCC continue to go in search of goals but were time and again denied by the brilliant Ka Shing. The Hearts' hardwork was finally rewarded midway through the 2dn half. Timothy sent a short pass to Samuel who tried to dribble through the TCC defence. With the help of Jack, he managed to shrug off the defenders and side-foot the ball past the opponent's goalkeeper! 1-1!

Complacent then sinked in and the Hearts was almost punished as TCC managed to escape the offside trap time and again but only the excellence of Ka Shing managed to keep the score at 1-1. Determine not to lose this game, the Hearts spent the last 10min defending with occasional attack on the break only to see misses by Vincent, Kenny and Joel Lee. 1-1 was the final score, with Ka Shing being the hero of the day! Credits to all the players for the marked improvement from the previous match and also, we thank the opponents for putting up such a fierce challenge which we enjoyed thoroughly! - LHFC90

LHFC: Ka Shing, Kelvin Goh, Kai Pin, Joel Thong, Raymond, Timothy, Samuel (c), Joel Lee, Vincent, Jack, Kenny

DARYL'S HAT-TRICK (OF MISSES)

LHFC 2

PFC 2

Reported By Samuel Chan
shorty_sam28@hotmail.com

Water logged pitch! Insufficient players! Absence of referee! The match between the Hearts and Premier still went ahead as the venue was changed to Jalan Tembusu, Katong, and the match kicked off at 1000 hours.

Starting with just 10 men, the Hearts surprisingly started off as the more offensive side but a miscommunication down the right flank allowed the opponent to cut in and sent a blazing shot into the top right corner of Ka Shing's goal. 0-1 after 20 min of play. The lead was short lived as Hearts equalised shortly afterwards, with our 11th player, Alvin turning up too. A corner from the left by Samuel was met by Joel Lee who headed the ball into goal, although Joel deny any touched to the ball. 1-1, with Joel Lee grabbing his 1st goal for the Hearts!

The team in yellow went in search for more goals, with Raymond, Samuel and Daryl causing problems down the left flank. However, the Hearts fell behind again! With the opponent's striker running through on goal, Joel Thong went in for the tackle inside the penalty box but was unlucky to clashed into the opponent as the ball went through. Penalty! Premier's No.9, Qing An stepped up and sent the ball beyond Ka Shing's reach! 1-2. Hearts pressed hard, with Samuel hitting the bar from a free-kick just outside the box, Valentino shot that went inches wide and Yen Sun shot that went straight into Valentino's stomach instead of goal, but that was how the 1st half ended.

Second half restarted with the Hearts continuing to go in search of goals again! Daryl was played through but his finishing was disappointing as he missed not 1, not 2, but 3 clear chances! Instead of dwelling on the missed chances, the attackers pushed forward as they were confident of getting an equaliser, if not more goals! Plenty of one-two by Samuel and Valentino, and also through balls from Raymond and the defence but the opponent managed to stop us at the last minute or we just could not finish it off.

Finally, a run down the right flank by Samuel resulted in a cut back into the box and with the goal at his mercy, Raymond's tap-in was unfortunately deflected onto the cross bar once again and the opponent was lucky to escape once again! With the minutes ticking away towards full-time, Lady Luck shown on the Hearts yet again! Guest player's, Eugene, run down the left flank was halted by Premier's centre-back and with the free-kick from some 35 yards out, it was left to the team captain to rescue the day! Drawing from his David Beckham's inspirations, Samuel curled the ball up and over the wall and the ball dipped over the keeper and under the bar to ensure that the Hearts go home with a hard-earned draw! 2-2 was the final score, but it could hav been 4-2, 5-2 or even more! It was a sign of Hearts intent to go all out for a win but it proved not to be our day. Twice put through on goal, Samuel could only come up with some rugby conversions.

It took just 8 minutes to serve up the 1st goal as Horny Team manage to score on the break after some fine dribbling by their striker up front. 0-1 to the Hearts. Determined to draw level, Hearts push further forward and Sheng Jie nearly equalised, after some shaky moments by the opponent goalkeeper but his shot just flashed past the goalmouth. Horny Team grabbed another 3 goals on through a series of counter attack but it could have been more, thanks to the excellent offside trap by the Hearts' defence.

A series of substitutions means Hearts decided to lower the tempo and reorganised for the second half. Zhi Yuan managed to pull one back before half time as he sent a dipping shot from the halfway line which manage to float over the goalkeeper and gave us some confidence. 1-4 HT!

Hearts went into the second half determined to make a comeback and were soon back into business as Samuel was brought down in the box and the referee duly awarded a penalty, our third penalty in 4 games. Kelvin Goh stepped up for the penalty, with the shot being saved but somehow still managed to roll into goal.

Minutes later, it was Kenny turn to earn yet another penalty! This time, a throw-in from the right was chested down by Kenny but before he could even bring it under control, the opposing defender hauled him down in the box. The referee did not hesitate and pointed to the spot, much to the annoyance of the opponents.

A revival was on the cards but the goalkeeper saved Sheng Jie conversion from the spot. Hearts then continue to go in search of goals but were dealt yet another blow when another counter attack by the Horny Team down the right extend the score line and we were 3 goals down again.

Kenny solo run from the halfway line, Jack setting up Matthew with a lay-off, Matthew short corner for Samuel, chance after chance but the Hearts still drew blank. While at the back, the defence did a great job trying to play the offside trap time and again to prevent a tennis score line from prevailing. The Hearts anticipated a goals-filled match, but to our disappointment, plenty ended up in our net! Full-time 2-5. - LHFC90

LHFC: Guo Yong, Kelvin Lin, Daniel, Joel Thong, Matthew (Jun Xiang 20), Raymond, Kelvin Goh (Kai Pin 20), Samuel (Valentino 20), Sheng Jie (Zhi Yuan 25), Hak Liang (Jack 20), Kenny (Ka Shing 30)

LAS HEARUTSUSU MAKE SQUASH OUT OF ORANG3RS

LHFC 4

T.O. 2

Reported By Kelvin Goh
kelvin_goh_912@hotmail.com

A stunning second half brace from substitute Samuel Chan was enough for the Hearts to see off the Oranges 4-2.

The Hearts had gone ahead through a Raymond penalty in the first half but fell behind from quick fire strikes from the Oranges after the interval. Center Half Kelvin Lin leveled the scores before Samuel’s introduction engineered a hard fought victory

A tense first half transcended into an all action second as box-to-box action made the tie extremely lively. Tempers did threaten to boil over occasionally, and there were little niggles and squabbles as they game drew to the end. Orange captain Tat Ming decidedly unimpressed by the robust nature of a few players.

The early impetus was enjoyed by LHFC as Raymond converted a penalty after a handball inside the area. Although it could be said the defender was unlucky as it appeared unintentional.

LHFC seized control over the vast majority of play and should have nicked a few as Joel Lee headed narrowly wide and Jerry could not get on the end of a cross. Set Pieces were also a constant threat as Daniel continually tested the Orange goalkeeper from range.

The Orang3rs best chance came just before the interval but their number six could only shoot wide of the mark. And so it went into the break one nil to the Hearts.

However, the Orang3rs came out of their shell immediately after the break as they took the game to the Hearts. An equalizer came after an orange shirt rounded Guo Yong before slotting the ball home. There was no time for the Hearts to catch their breath, as Tat Ming’s cross was converted brilliantly by a splendid volley.

It almost got worst but Guo Yong again pulled off heroics with a wonderful one handed save.

Just as the Oranges were starting to turn the screw, LHFC delivered a sucker punch when Kelvin Lin found himself unmarked inside the six-yard box from a corner. He duly converted the chance much to the relief and delight of the team in yellow.

The equalizer seemed to suck the life out of the Orang3rs as they were undoubtedly on top after the interval. A tense affair follow as the game became a scrappy affair

But it was left to Samuel who made a surprised appearance just after the hour mark. His shot was allowed to go through the goalkeeper’s near post to spark off delirious celebrations.

The dust had not yet settled when Samuel again found the net, this time from a wayward right wing cross which flew into the far post. Questions on whether he meant it, but it didn’t matter to LHFC who now led 4-2

The goal was enough as the Hearts had the comfort of a two-goal margin, and they consolidated on this with a hard earned victory. He was twice denied after foraging through on goal by last-ditch tackles

LHFC piled on the pressure but only managed a few half chances, coming closest with a Samuel free kick that the keeper parried away

The Whites did have their moments and should have made it two nothing if not for Zhi Fei spurning a golden chance inside the box. The undergrad’s volley flying just off the mark. And so it ended one nil to the Mavericks at the break

The second half saw some minor changes to the line up as the Hearts sought to wrestle the game back. A barrage of corners almost led to the equalizer as Kenny headed narrowly over the bar

Shortly after, Zhi Yuan’s shot from the edge of the box went wide and Valentino narrowly failed to latch on to a ball over the top from Raymond. It appeared the Hearts were running out of ideas

And the Hearts were left shell shocked on the hour as a lightning quick Maverick counter attack resulted in the second goal of the day. A kick in the teeth for the Hearts, who looked as if they might find the breakthrough

It proved not to be LHFC’s day as Kenny found himself cemented in a swamp of mud as he raced clear on goal. Claims of offside for the ball launched through the middle were turned down by the African referee but the Hearts failed to capitalize. At this point, LHFC must have thought their chances of getting something from the game were as dry as the Referee’s corn rolls

Towards the end, Guo Yong put in a fine save as he prevented the score line from being cruel to the Hearts. Another counter attack and the custodian stood his ground to turn away a one on one

Full time arrived as the Mavericks celebrated a clinical victory over the Hearts after a tense affair. It was a match played in good spirit and the referee did his part to allow football to flow, unlike the week before – LHFC90

LHFC: Guo Yong, Zhi Yuan, Joel Thong, Kelvin Lin, Sheng Jie, Valentino (Yen Sun 30), Joel Lee, Samuel (Daryl 40), Raymond, Kelvin Goh (Timothy 30), Kenny (Jack 30)

HEARTS SING IN THE RAIN AS OPPONENTS GO MENTAL

LHFC 3 (Jerry, Daniel, Kenny)

"POLY" TEAM 1

Reported By Kelvin Goh
kelvin_goh_912@hotmail.com

Heavy rain threatened to end all proceedings before the match but it was a stellar performance by the Hearts, which sank the opponents.

Not to be undone by the one hour delay, goals from Jerry, Daniel and Kenny were enough for LHFC to wrap up their first victory of the new campaign as the opponents were reduced to ten men in the second half.

In a first half dominated largely by the team in yellow, LHFC came close on a numerous number of occasions and chances were spurred. Samuel had an angle drive parried by their number one after going round a few defenders. Kenny could have opened the scoring but handled the ball inside the box.

Though it seem the Hearts could have ran out with a cricket score, it amazingly remained nil all after the first interval.

The Hearts could have been made to pay after the opponents scored against the break of play and almost made it two on the day with an audacious lob over the keeper.

It seemed as though it wasn’t to be LHFC or Samuel’s day as the latter’s volley crashed off the post and his free kick bounced off the bar. The Armored Engineer also had a penalty saved by the goalkeeper after Kenny had been fouled inside the box. The referee refused to allow play to continue after the foul in the box, which would have resulted in the equalizer as Kelvin put the ball in the net.

However, the Hearts never stopped fighting and their resilience paid off as Jerry neatly placed a low finish outside the box to finally draw both teams level.

LHFC sensed this was the moment. And indeed this was the turning point as debut boy Daniel rose in the six-yard box to head home a Samuel corner. Shortly after, petulance from the opponents no. 14 was right punished with his second yellow card of the morning.

There was even time for a third as Daniel’s shot from outside the box was inavertedly turned in by Kenny, though there was speculation about him being in an offside position.

Unmistakable joy and relief as the referee’s whistle blew for full time. The Hearts showing dogged determination in telling circumstances as the opponents bottled it in the second half. - AP

LHFC: Guo Yong, Joel Thong, Daniel, Sheng Jie, Jun Xiang (Jerry 45), Raymond, Samuel, Zhi Yuan (Kelvin Goh 45), Yen Sun (Jack 45), Kenny (Hak Liang 45), Valentino

A RAY OF HOPE

23 June 2007

LAS HEARUTSUSU F.C. 2
UNKONWN TEAM 2

Starting Line-up: Ka Shing, Kenny (c), Joel Lee, Joel Thong, Kelvin Goh, Raymond, Valentino, Yen Sun, Jerry, Samuel, Hak Liang

Match Highlights

FIRST Half

-HOT-Tempered start to the match!!! Within minutes of the kick off, tackles were flying in and the referee had no choice but to dished out some yellow cards to control the situation.

-A quick counter-attack down the left flank saw Samuel taking the ball past 3 players before chipping over the GK. However, the ball rebounded off the bar but fell nicely for Hak Liang who after shaking off the defender, placed it into the corner of the net! 1-0

-A cross in from the right was flicked on by their defender to Raymond! His powerful volley however lands the ball well wide of goal.

-A quick throw-in to Raymond was followed by a cross into the ball! The ball was headed in in spectacular fashion but by the opposition after some good work by Valentino who gave the defender too much of a problem! 2-0 up!

-Just before the break, a cutback by Valentino was received by Samuel who instead of having a 1st time shot, decided to take the ball round their defenders only to get intercepted after the 4th player!

SECOND Half

-Right after the restart, we were back into attacking mode! Valentino released Kenny down the right but his cross failed to be met by Samuel and a glorious chance was wasted!

-The lack of concentration result in the opponent sneaking behind the defence to put one pass Ka Shing. 2-1

-After that wake-up call, we went in search for more goals but was dealt a blow as an unlucky deflection off one of our players denied Ka Shing the save and the opponent had a simple tap-in to level the score! 2-2

-That was how it stayed as the remaining attacks saw many offside calls.

-Man-of-the-match: Hak Liang! First goal for the team!

HEARTS GO HIDING

11 June 2007

LAS HEARUTSUSU F.C. 1
TEAM TCC 8

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; The addition of Sheng Jie resulting in a fresh pair of legs ensured we attack!

-Through balls was send for the strikers but the delivery was hard as the opponent's GK managed to get to the ball first each time.

-A foul on Kenny just outside the box resulted in a free-kick. Without waiting for the whistle, Samuel send the ball just above the bar!

-GOAL! Or so we thought so. A corner-kick from the left by Samuel ended up in goal by once again we were to be denied by the referee as he blew for an unknown infringement!

-A long ball forward by Joel found Sheng Jie and as he went one-n-one with the goalkeeper, his shot rebound off the post and was cleared by the defenders!

-We had another few more chances but we cant convert. Instead, our chances were chances for the opponents too as they went on the counter attacks to score 4 more goals to condemn us to our heaviest defeat ever! 1-8!

-Man-of-the-Match: Valentino Khoo

ATTACK AT THE COSTS OF DEFENCE

31 May 2007

LAS HEARUTSUSU F.C. 2
KAWABANGA F.C. 7
(*last minute arrangement)

Starting Line-up: Ka Shing, Zhi Yuan, Kelvin Lin, Joel, Kelvin Goh (c), Matthew, Shu Heng, Hak Liang, Jack, Jerry, Valentino

Match Highlights
-Highest ever attendance by team with 17 players turning up for the match. With a crisis emerging, Rui Feng, Kar Shin and Valentino were invited to join the team in our quest for our 1st victory. The lack of defenders meant that we started off with a 3-5-2 formation, ready to strike the opponent on the counter attack.

After some early exchanges in the midfield compartment, the opponents soon send waves of attack into our defence. However, they were to be denied time and again as our new goalkeeper, Kar Shin came to our rescue on many occasions. We sat back for most of the 1st half but when the opportunity arise, we gave the opponent a sucker punch. A ball out wide to Valentino was sent back into the box and with a "Pippo Inzhagi" finish, Jack send the ball rolling in between the goalkeeper's legs to give us a surprise one-nil lead. We went into the break with that lead, for the 2nd consecutive game.

2nd half was a different story altogether. The re-arrangement at the back result in some confusion and we soon concede 2 soft goals in quick succession. To make matter worse, a terrible back pass by Samuel was intercepted by the opponent's striker and soon we were 1-3 down. Our strikers had a couple of 1-on-1 chances but they failed to convert them while at the other end, our opponents scored 2 more goals to condemn us to our 2nd successive defeat.

I wont say it was a poor performance, I understand that our workload during our work week played a part in our tiredness. I'm glad that everyone pressed on and I'm sure with this attitude, we can only move forward! The safe pair of hands in goal today is our Man-of-the-Match. Without Kar Shin, we might even have suffered a double digit defeat!

BACK TO EARTH!

14 April 2007

Las Hearutsusu F.C. 1 CF F.C. 3

Line-up

Guo Yong, Kelvin Goh, Kelvin Lin, Joel, Sheng Jie, Matthew, Kai Pin, Raymond, Samuel, Kenny, Daryl

Kenny and Sheng Jie made their 10th appearance for the team and we also welcome a new face, Matthew! We wanted that 1st official victory so badly, but in the end, we were left to rue the chances we missed in the 1st half. Here was how the match went...

KICK OFF! CF F.C. started off with only 8 men but that soon turned into 11 as their players arrived 5 min late for the game. However, that gave us a psychological edge as we managed to attack them and pressed them deep into their half! Samuel came close to giving the team a lead as his shot from outside the box flew inches wide! Kenny's and Daryl's pace were a constant threat to the opponents and like it always happen, Kenny took advantage of a back pass from the opponent and toe-poked the ball passed the onrushing goalkeeper to give our side a lead. We continue to search for more goals, with shots from Daryl, Raymond and Samuel going wide. With a watertight defence at the back, it ensured we went into the break with a 1-0 lead!

2nd half was an entirely different story. CF made a few changes while we had to played on with the same 11 players and it was apparently tired legs were appearing. A miscommunication in defence allow our opponents to equalise shortly after the restart. Unlike the 1st half where our passing was fluent and our attack were with intent, that was not to be in the 2nd half. All we could do were pump long balls hoping that Kenny could capitalise on them but that failed. We had a few chances from the set-pieces, but were denied by the CF's keeper. As the match progress on, our drop in fitness level allowed the enemy to score again and again and the match ended 1-3. We did all we could, but it was not enough.

We were magnificent in the 1st half, but disorganise in the 2nd. The fighting spirit was there so we cant fault anyone for the loss, rather, we should appreciate all the hard work that we put in today as it was never going to be an easy match against an amateur league team. So, for today's Man-of-the-Match, it goes to the calm and compose Raymond! He orchestrated the midfield well today and also stayed back deep in our half to defend during the dying minutes! Congratulations!

"Players need to show more commitment. Opponents? Pravin lead Indian Team. The last time we met, it ended in a 1-5 defeat but that was not to be the case today.
A new addition in Vincent Tang gave us one of our strongest line-up in the past few weeks. Samuel & Kenny took turns being the goalkeeper to replace the unavailable Guo Yong. For almost the entire match, we were being pressed back in our own half but we did managed a couple of counter attacks which almost result in a goal. One of the long ball forward was headed down by Kenny who after bringing the ball under control, shot at the underside of the bar and rebounded out of goal! That was the nearest to a goal in the 1st half and we headed for our half-time break 0-0.

Shortly after the game resume, the opponents took advantage of our lapse of concentration and send the ball into the bottom corner, 0-1! However, it was only then the real drama began. After much tiredless run down the flanks, a lay off by Hak Liang found Sheng Jie at the edge of the box and he unleashed a shot which dipped over the opponent's goalkeeper to equalised for Las Hearutsusu! 1-1. Plenty of physical battles were engaged all over the pitch and just when the match was about to end, an unfortunate bounce by the ball hit Zhi Kai's hand and the referee blew for a penalty! Kenny though was at the right place to divert away the shot, 2nd penalty clearance in 2 consecutive weeks! The match then ended 1-1.

Being one of the main players of the team, Sheng Jie finally managed to open his scoring account today with a spectacular strike! Las Hearutsusu was brimming with confidence after pretty decent performances from the past few matches. Somehow, the motor of the team did not seems to get moving as we had a relatively quiet first half. Against the run of play, a toe-poked by Samuel eluded the opponent's defence and Kenny pounced on to put the ball past the on rushing goalkeeper! 1-0! That was how it remain for us in the 1st half as the opponent send in 5 goals subsequently and we headed into the break 1-5 down, not knowing what had went on for the past 45 minutes.

After some re-organisation, we were ready for battle right till the end! Kenny took over the duties in between the posts and that gave our defence greater confidence going about doing their job. The opponent defence went to sleep halfway through the 2nd half and Samuel sneaked in, after intercepting the ball from the last man, and send the ball over the goalkeeper. 2-5! Kelvin Goh's fighting spirit won us a free-kick juz outside the penalty box minutes later. Samuel direct free-kick was tipped onto the bar by the goalkeeper but Kelvin Lin was at the right place to slot the ball home for our 3rd goal. Realising our fightback, the opponent regain momentum and search for more goals but was denied by the outstanding Kenny as he made a acrobatic save to maintain the scoreline at 3-5. Not only that, the opponent missed a penalty, probably due to his inferior looks! And that was how the match ended.

A goal, a missed penalty and an acrobatic reflex save, once again, our vice-captain Kenny Zhu have been chosen as the Man of the Match!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lashearutsusumatchreports.blogspot.com/2007/04/match-report-for-lhfc-vs-dunman-all.html' title='Match Report for LHFC vs Dunman All Stars F.C. It was a 60 min match with only 16 players involved. As many of the 1st team players are unable to play, this match provide the other players to claim their stake in the team. We welcome back Jun Rong after being sidelined for a niggling ankle injury.

With Guo Yong unavailable, Jia Yinn was deployed as the man between the posts. His goal kick found Jun Rong who turned and slotted the ball to Jerry. Without any further hesitation, Jerry toe-poked the ball to give LHFC the lead. However it was short lived as the opponents grabbed 2 goals in quick succession to snatch the lead. We continue to search for the equalizer though and finally some link up play between Timothy and Samuel created one just before the end of the match and so it ended 2-2!

On the whole, it was a decent performance as most of us perform consistently. And once again, Joel Thong is our Man-of-the-Match for his tough-tackling and no-nonsense defending! (3/3/2007)

3 March 2007

Las Hearutsusu F.C. 8 Fraternite F.C. 1

In our first unofficial match, we came up against a young and energetic Fraternite F.C. With their youngest player being only a 13 year old and the fact that we were playing with one man less, making our physical presence count was our obvious tactic. 3-3-3 was the formation of the day, with 2 newcomers being Melvin and Joel (Kelvin’s cousin). The condition of the pitch was pretty bad and opening exchanges between the team was sloppy. However, a short punt forward by Joel found Jack and he lob it over the on rushing goalkeeper to open the scoring. Crosses by Melvin, Kenny, Jack and Samuel then added another quartet of goals with scorer being Jack (2), Samuel and Kenny. A penalty was given to FFC for an infringement on their player. However, the taker was unable to convert the kick and we went into the break leading 5-0.

In the 2nd half, we decided to slow down the pace as we went from 3-3-3 formation to a 4-3-1 formation. We took the opportunity to play some passing game and it was good practice as they were some pretty good play. Jack added another tap-in midway through the half to make it 6-0 before the opponents pull one back from a counter attack! To round up the match, Samuel made it 7-1 when he dribbled past 4 players to put the ball into goal. Jack rounded up the match when he received a cross from Melvin for a simple tap-in. 8-1 was the final results. As it was an unofficial match, there were some pretty controversial calls, such as one where Melvin shot appeared to head into goal but was disallowed.

Thumbs up to the young guns of Fraternite F.C. for putting up a fight. Though we were complacent at times, but nevertheless, it was a good effort and I hope to see more of the teamwork and work rate displayed in today’s match in future matches too! Jack Moy, after an absence of 6 games, returned with 5 goals today. Man of the match performance! *¡Buenos individuos del trabajo!

Man-of-the-Match: Jack Moy
*Good job guys!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lashearutsusumatchreports.blogspot.com/2007/03/match-report-for-lhfc-vs-fraternite-fc.html' title='Match Report for LHFC vs Fraternite F.C. Though we’re not the strongest team around in the social soccer arena, but I hope we can play as a team with our strong passion for the game and strengthen the bond among the members which will last us for a lifetime. After today’s match, it come to shows that commitment of some players is a suspect! For the players who played in today’s match, I appreciate your effort (Kenny you better get your boots ready by the next match!) and I apologise for letting my temper got the better of me. For those who were injured or post me an advance notice, I appreciate the arrangements and I hope that you guys can recover soon and join us in future matches. For those who gave last minute notices (os should I say excuses), maybe its time you consider looking for other teams to play for as we cannot accept this irresponsible attitude. If a player who is injured (Sheng Jie) can rush down from camp just to play for the team, why cant you? Maybe you think that we’re just going to lose another match and your presence doesnt make a difference but let me tell you this. Bring a recorder, film down the whole match! We’re improving! I may not be the nicest guy on the pitch (as Kenny and Kai Pin can tell you), but all I want is to have a team, which comprises of all the friends I have met along my life, who will want to come together and have fun by just kicking a ball. Its alright if we doesnt win, just as long as we play for each other and at the end of the day, strengthen the bond that have brought us all together. Think about it guys. Till the next match, take care!

Men-of-the-Match: The Defence

Match Report for LHFC vs DSTA Team (10/2/07)

10 February 2007

Las Hearutsusu 2 DSTA Team 2

(Samuel 1, Kenny 1)

Starting Line-up

Line-up

Guo Yong, Zhi Yuan, Joel, Kelvin Lin, Sheng Jie, Samuel, Kenny, Yen Sun, Hak Liang, Kelvin Goh, Kai Pin (Jia Yinn)

Before we could even have our game, our guys had an even harder time trying to locate where the Tanglin pitch was. We started aggressively, trying our best to make our numbers count. Chance after chance came in but the deadlock was not broken. Then came the undesired! After a couple of corner kicks by the opponents, they finally made one count as their player caught Samuel sleeping away and nod home from the near post. 0-1! That served as a wake up call as we went in search of our goals and it didnt took too long as a cross from the unmarked Kelvin was about to reach Kenny. With 2 defenders on him, the pressure paid off as Kenny failed to made connection with the ball but it went to Samuel instead and he volleyed home to make it 1-1!

2nd half, with the opponent coming up with one more player, breaking down their defence wasnt easy. Wave and wave of attack fail to materialise as players were caught off-sides time and again and tiredness was starting to set in. So, with LHFC losing our concentration midway through the 2nd half, the opponent’s striker sneak in behind the defence and lob over Guo Yong. 1-2! To make matters worse, our key player Sheng Jie had to be “stretchered off” due to an injury. Thumbs up to him though as he insist on playing though he have already suffered from a muscle pull previously. With the clock ticking down and the prospect of another defeat looming, our never-say-die attitude came to our rescue again! A long punt from defence found Samuel as he went 1-on-1 with the opponent’s goalkeeper. His failed attempt to lob resulted in Kenny having the task of sending the ball into an empty net. 2-2! And so the whistle went off!

Well, everyone put in their effort for this match but performance was not up to standard as we didnt made full use of the extra players we have. So, for the man-of-the-match award, it isnt going to Samuel, nor Kenny, nor Kelvin, instead, its going to the REFEREE! No, you’re not seeing the wrong word, its the REFEREE! Thanks to him, we were able to allow our play to flow at times and also thank him for his useful advices.

Man-of-the-Match: Referee

Match Report for LHFC vs IndianTeam (3/2/07)

3 February 2007
Las Hearutsusu 1 Indian Team 3
(Samuel 1)

Starting Line-up

Line-up
Guo Yong, Kelvin (Jun Xiang), Joel, Ci Yuan, Zhi Fei (Daryl), Yen Sun, Chew Teng, Sheng Jie, Kenny, Raymond, Tim

After a month of break from soccer, partly due to the rain lately, LHFC is back into buisness today! For the 1st time ever, we have almost the entire team available with the addition of new players. The goalkeeping department welcome a steady and reliable Guo Yong, in defence we have Ci Yuan and in midfield we have Yen Sun. With Kenny assigned as captain, the overall play was pretty organised, with chances for Raymond and Tim which unfortunately didnt end up in the back of the net. Just when the half was about to end, the opponent took advantage of a goalmouth scramble to score and we head into the half 0-1.

2nd Half

In order to give some of our players more match exposure, in came Daryl, Jun Xiang and Kai Pin while some of the key players took a break. Samuel took over from Kenny for the captain role and the 2nd half begin. A miscommunication betwen Joel and Guo Yong led to a slip up and allow the opponent to make it 0-2. And just when we thought it was our chance to steal something back, the opponent cleverly broke our offside trap to make it 0-3, making it hard for us to come back. However, with our never-say-die attitude, we made sure we didn’t went home empty-handed. A wayward cross by Samuel was picked up by Sheng Jie who send in a precise cross. With the opponent’s goalkeeper focusing on Kenny, Samuel sneak in to hand home an unmarked header to make the score 1-3, his 2nd in 2 consecutive match. With the key players returning to the pitch, LHFC pressed on but was unable to carve out any other chances. Whistle blew, a 1-3 defeat!

For a long time, LHFC have been searching for a reliable No.1 and today we seem to have found the answer. Though Guo Yong was unfortunate to allow a slip up leading to the second goal, if not for his heroics and vast experience in goalkeeping, we might have ended up with a much heavier defeat! So, on his debut, Guo Yong have been chosen as the Man-of-the-Match for LHFC! Congrats!

Man-of-the-Match: Guo Yong

Match Report for LHFC vs PravinTeam (30/12/06)

30 December 2006
Las Hearutsusu 1 Pravin’s Team 5
(Samuel 1)

Starting Line-up

Line-up
Samuel, Nevin, Joel, Kai Pin, Qing An, Daryl, Jerry, Sheng Jie, Kenny, Rui Feng, Zhi Fei

It’s true that you wont get everything in life the way you want it to be. On a day when there was a perfect weather for playing soccer, sad to say, you end up playing on a pitch that look more like a swamp! Though the 1st choice XI did not turn up, we welcomed exciting new members! In came tough tackling Rui Feng, speedy Qing An and calm and composed Zhi Fei!

Kick off! With opponent starting with only 10 men, it was a great chance to get the opening goal. Instead, were pegged back in our own half and do some defending! The addition of new players into our team did show some elements that were lacking in previous games but with the lousy pitch condition, play was pretty sloppy for both teams. With Joel at his usual best, LHFC managed to survive the opponent’s on slaught but the inexperience of Kai Pin was evident as he allow their striker to slip past him and put a shot pass Samuel. 0-1!

2nd Half

With victory a real possibility, LHFC decided to experiment with some interesting tactics. In came Kai Pin as GK, Kenny as right-back and Samuel in centre-midfield. Though we were soon 0-2 down, but some nice link up between the midfielders and the strikers allow Daryl to take a shot at goal! However, the goalkeeper parried the ball only for Samuel to tap it into an open goal to make it 1-2! Morale high but the vicotry just did not materialise! Final score read 1-5, with the opponent missing a last minute penalty!

We did lost this match, but it was to a team of good individuals, not a good team! Our performance today was the best I’ve seen so far! Quite a number of opportunities created and some aggressiveness showed from players like Jerry and Daryl (all previously lacking!). And for the man-of-the-match award for LHFC, once again, it goes to Joel! Congrats Joel!

Man-of-the-Match: Joel Thong

Match Report for LHFC vs JJLeeTeam (9/12/06)

9 December 2006
Las Hearutsusu 0 JJLee Team 4

Starting Line-up

Line-up
Samuel, Nevin, Joel, Chew Teng, Jun Xiang, Daryl, Kenneth, Sheng Jie, Kenny, Kelvin, Pravin

While some of the players return for our 3rd match, a few of the guys who played in the previous match wasnt present. The team welcome back Kenny, Chew Teng and Kelvin, but absentees include Tim, Shi Jie and Jun Rong. 2 new players joined us, Pravin and Kenneth. We thought it was going to easy, but soon we’re going to be prove wrong.

The opponents were a group of staffs from DSTA (as seen from their jerseys), with a few pretty exceptional players including a “Brazilian” looking striker! Just a few minutes into the match, this “Brazilian” outrun Daryl, then Nevin, and from the slightest of angle, slot the ball into the far corner past Samuel into the net! 1-0. We knew it was going to get worse! Wave of attack by the opponents followed up and soon we were 2 nil down! A looping shot by this white hair guy dipped over and hapless Samuel to make it 2-0! And for all their attack, we could only return 1 shot on goal, courtesy of a free-kick by Pravin.

2nd Half
2nd half was the same old story! Though we did manage some better moves, and also intensive pressing into the opponent half, our lack of skill and teamwork was there for all to see! From a corner, once again, the white hair guy rose above our packed defence to head home their 3rd goal. Then a disastrou clearance from Jun Xiang allowed the opponent to snatch the 4th goal as the ball spin backwards when he attempted to clear it! However, there were some positive as Kenny made some spectacular save, inlcuding a one-handed dive to keep the scoreline low! Jun Xiang and Nevin also improved from their previous performance while Joel turn in another good performance with some important goaline clearance!

To sum it up, we could have lost more if not for the respect shown by the opponent! We need to improve, and also a more aggresive spirit towards the game! It’s time we shed off the “whipping boys” tag!

Match Report for LHFC vs NJT (25/11/06)

25 November 2006
Las Hearutsusu 1 NJ Team 5
(Tim 1)

Starting Line-up

Line-up
Samuel, Jun Rong, Nevin, Joel, Sheng Jie, Daryl, Jason, Tim, Jun Xiang (Jack), Shi Jie, Jack Moy

Not the right time to hold the match consider the number of players unavailable. With Kelvin, Yen Sun and Chew Teng out with injuries and Kenny, Raymond and Kai Pin away on duties, basically we just fielded another brand new team! In came Nevin, Shi Jie, Jack and also 2 guest players, Jason and Jack (there are 2 of them). Changes included Samuel starting as GK, Sheng Jie starting at LB and Daryl starting at DM.

1st half. As usual against the run of play, a long punt by Sheng Jie caught the opponent’s GK off guard and that allow Jack to sneak in to score into an empty net. But he was denied by a handball by their defender who deserve a red card. Instead, only a penalty was awarded and Tim converted it from the spot to give us the lead. NJ team push hard for an equaliser and they were really lucky to get it due to a misfortunate kick by Joel resulted in an own goal, after Samuel made a 1-on-1 save from the striker. Before the half end, a miskick by Nevin allow their striker to sprint through to lob the ball over Samuel to make it 2-1.

2nd half was pretty like the 1st match where the floodgate just flow open as waves and waves of attack from the NJ team made the scoreline 5-1! However, if not for the determination of Joel, it could hav been even 10 or 15-1! Therefore, Man-of-the-Match goes to Joel this time round!

Man-of-the-Match: Joel

Match Report for LHFC vs OT (15/10/06)

15 October 2006
Las Hearutsusu 2 Orange Team 7
(Kenny - 2)

Starting Line-up

Line-up
Jerry, Jun Rong, Chew Teng, Kelvin, Samuel, Raymond, Sheng Jie, Timothy, Hak Liang, Kenny, Daryl (Joel)

Our debut match. Conceded a goal within the first few minutes but some tirelessly running by KENNY up front paid off as he took advantage of the opponent’s goalkeeper mistake, taking the ball off him while the goalkeeper was trying to clear it and sidefooting it into an empty net. 1-1! 1st goal for the team! It didnt take long for the 2nd goal to come. An excellent pin-point cross by Sheng Jie from the left flank arrive at the foot of Kenny once again and somehow KENNY managed to toe-poke it into goal from a pretty difficult angle. 2-1! Morale HIGH! However, as we were heading for the halftime break, Samuel did the unthinkable of handling possession back to the opponent near our penalty box! Without making any mistake, the opponent blasted the ball pass our hapless Jerry to make it 2-2 before the break!

2nd half see the team reshuffled from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 with Joel coming on for Daryl. However, injury to Kelvin means Daryl had to come back on and it was then when everything start to go wrong. Miscommunication between players, tiredness sinking in, the hot weather and the exposure of our team weaknesses led to the opponent going on a rampage, blasting another 5 goals past Jerry. 7-2 it ended!

Its not a bad start considering its the 1st time the players are playing together. Many positive aspect to work on and hopefully we will get it right in the next few matches.

Man-of-the-Match: KENNY ZHU
